THOMAS GOULD

The next big thing from the UK’s classical music scene, Thomas Gould directs AcO2 in his Australian debut tour.

A child prodigy, Thomas first picked up a violin at the age of only 3 and has gone on to perform in some of the UK’s most prestigious concert halls and lead most of the major UK orchestras.

Thomas performs on a highly precious 257 year old Italian violin made by Gennaro Gagliano.

Thomas’s mother is Australian, from Perth. He says of this Australian tour, “This is a bit like a homecoming for me.”

AcO2 combines musicians from Australia’s most exciting and dynamic orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, with the cream of Australia’s young, up-and-coming string players.

Having performed with artists such as Tim Freedman of The Whitlams, Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto and starred in Simon Callow’s world-wide television series Classical Destinations II, AcO2 perform some of the most highly anticipated concerts on Australia’s regional touring circuit.

THE CONCERT

With more than a million hits on Google, Bach’s incredibly popular Goldberg Variations will no doubt be the highlight of the show.

First though, audiences will hear a hard-hitting show-piece by former Estonian rock star, Erkki-Sven Tüür, who is one of the best contemporary composers today.

Tüür’s Action-Passion-Illusion is impressive to witness live.

Sandwiched between the popular Bach and the vibrant Tüür, Thomas Gould takes centre stage in the Australian premiere of Tabakova’s arrangement of Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata.
