More International acts come to Mackay

Following hot on the heels of acclaimed UK act Smokie, the Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre (MECC) is delighted to announce more international acts are on their way next year.

The Searchers one of the few remaining hit touring bands from the heady days of the early 60’s will appear at the MECC on 11 February 2011 as part of a limited Australian tour.  The distinctive jangling sound of the twelve string guitar and the rich harmonies embellishing their immaculate vocals have without doubt assured The Searchers of a lasting place the history of popular music throughout the world.

The Searchers are in as much demand today as they have been throughout their fantastic career which now remarkably spans 5 decades. Whilst they are so enthusiastically and warmly received, they will continue to tour.

Last year saw them as busy as ever, having visited many countries around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. But it doesn’t stop there, TV, Radio, personal appearances, concert tours, luxury cruises, corporate events, private parties, all figure in their never ending touring schedules. A career that has lasted this long is not an exercise in survival. It is really about doing what you love and being a part of something you have pride in say The Searchers.

In 2008 The Searchers made a welcome and deserved return to the UK album charts with the release of ‘The Very Best of The Searchers’. A 25 track compilation of all their classic hits including, Sweets For My Sweet; Needles and Pins; Don’t Throw Your Love Away, When You Walk In The Room, Sugar and Spice, Love Potion No. 9, and many others.  The Searchers have contributed enormously to the British music industry, with record sales well in excess of 40 million. 

Tickets for The Searchers go on sale Wednesday 17 November and book now and save.  An early bird offer sees The Searchers tickets on sale at the very special price of $45.

From the 15 December when the 2011 Mackay Professional Theatre & Music Season goes on sale tickets will revert to the correct prices of $55 Full, $49 Concession, $45 Friends & Subscribers.
