Excitement is building as Lions Rock Pop Mime, a dance spectacular for both primary and secondary schools in Mackay and the surrounding area, is confirmed for 6.30pm on Saturday 24 July, in the beautiful setting of the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.

Students from at least fifteen schools have been busy practicing for months and are putting the final touches to their programs, before they face off against each other.

Lions Rock Pop Mime had been hosted by the Lions Club of Mackay Host for 35 years until 2019, when Covid forced its cancellation, to the disappointment of the schools.

In 2021, with Covid regulations still in place, a decision had to be taken to take this well loved, spectacular event indoors, to the purpose built MECC Plenary Halls.

As a result of the need to go indoors, the Lions Club has had to introduce for the first time a nominal charge of $10 per seat, with tickets now available through the MECC Box Office.

Every year, Rock Pop Mime attracts a large crowd, and this will be particularly the case as we transition this year into this new venue setting.

Each act will be judged on originality and creativity, mime accuracy, movement and coordination, costume, participants’ enjoyment and overall impression.

Mackay Host Lions Club, a not for profit community service organisation, loves providing Rock Pop Mime. From a community service viewpoint; it helps provide enjoyment in giving back in a way that they wouldn’t normally do.

The public are now invited to come along to enjoy a family night, in support of this spectacular cultural event for all ages.
